Learning and teaching Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Learning and teaching - Essay Example This program was inaugurated because a lot of employers were complaining about their employees basic literacy skills and thus they had to send their employees to gain the basic reading and writing skills (Barrs & Cork, 2001, pg 9). Literacy underlies every aspect of education, it helps to outperform grades, empower students, reshape their potentials and help them survive in this world. Within the literacy subject reading is a fundamental tool for progress and success. Gough and his colleagues introduced a ââ¬ËSimple View of Reading Modelââ¬â¢ to enhance the reading capabilities within the students. According to them children can attain competence in reading when two main elements, i.e. reading words and listening comprehension are included in reading speech. If a child can decode the text fluently and can understand the spoken language easily then he will not face any difficulty with independent reading comprehension (Oââ¬â¢Conner, 2007, pg. 12-13). Teachers should create reading development of children at the very basic level, i.e. the primary school level. Primary teachers should enhance the reading abilities within the young students by integrating reading, writing, speaking and listening skills (N amdi, 2009, pg 4). Hence, simple view reading is used especially in England primary schools and it is considered a mandatory approach I the teachings of reading (DFES, 2006). But when we apply SVR frames within the classroom environment then this model does not fit here. It not only neglects what the child knows about the language, spelling, and the basic process of making the sense of spoken and written language but it also makes learning to read in English particularly challenging. Due to this in 2009, United Nations Literacy Association currently started a research project, Building communities of readers. This project involves developing range of childrenââ¬â¢s reading and addressing those concerns that he simple view of reading

He discussed that eve though the family of Oliver was of different religions, they were still putting the peace on their heart. With respect to the political view, the politics in the novel represents some deficiencies of the true form of politics in the whole wide world. It was presented and explained on the novel how the politics is some sort of injustice. The real politics and politics in this novel are neither really similar nor different. In the geographical view, the novel was situated in way that the geographical mode is of the same way with the time of the novel was presented. It was situated in a community where people experienced difficulties with respect to community of criminals ad prostitutes. The people in the novel were creating a way that the geographic position of the community is essential. Tackling with the social view, the author speaks for the truth about the social community. It is explained in the novel that people need other people to survive in the community. People are born for other people. No man is an island. In order to survive the cruelty of the world, one person should have great communication and social interactions with other people. And last but not the least, about the economic view. One of the great topics in this novel is about the economic view. It is presented here that in life of poverty and scruelty; people were doing unnecessary things just to make their life into fulfillment. People may do some crimes and other illegal works just to survive in the low economized community. The use of providing great world issues in the Novel is a way to provide creativity with the said religion, political, economical, social and geographical ways. The author, Charles Dickens have very wide thought about the current issues I his time that he came to develop a novel with story that relates to the whole wide world. I is necessary for him that he even does not have good experiences in writing had no acclaimed awards for his works he still make it expressive for him to provide meaningful Novel. The Novel in particular was really fascinating for the story it provides is viewers or readers, it catches most of the readerââ¬â¢s attention. It does not need o make some more great speculations for the story to make it interesting. It was interesting in many ways. With its thoughts and ideas, it is still interesting. Corporate Social Responsibility for Competitive Advantage
Corporate Social Responsibility for Competitive Advantage Introduction The famous Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman who once said that there is one and only one social responsibility of business to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits (Friedman 1970). Friedman outlines views which are characterized in two perspectives with regards to social responsibility, on one hand we are aware that attaining profits is one of the primary objectives but it doesnt mean that the managers should be focusing only on profits when making business decisions. There are other factors as well, with can be explored around different perspectives related to social responsibility, however focusing on a businesss application of Social responsibility to make decisions and benefiting society (Spector, 2008). Regardless of whether businesses pose any responsibility to partake in social matters is an ever-growing part of the commercial and industrial world, not too long ago businesses were expected to avoid any harm being done, however recently its almost frowned upon if a corporation does not engage in corporate social responsibility (CSR) at all. Qualitative Analysis Forbes published a blog and the writer carried out a survey about consumer behavior, attitudes and awareness about cause marketing, consumer and employee perspectives on CSR issues. The results were that 65% strongly considered leaving their jobs if harm is caused to the environment by the company and a staggering 90% of the consumers said improving society should go hand in hand with achieving company business goal (Epstein-Reeves, 2010). 30,000 consumers were interviewed on Corporate Social Responsibility conducted by Neilson Global this survey ranged across 60 countries with the purpose to understand how invested consumers are with regards to sustainable practices in their daily purchases. It also covered which segments are ecologically and socially supportive in the responsibility efforts made. 50%+ respondents claimed they purchased at a minimum one service or product within the span of six months from a company that is socially responsible. Out of every 10 respondents, four said they have made socially and ethical purchases, these respondents were from North America and Europe (Nielson, 2014) Per Net impacts what workers want report, from the sample size, 45% of the staff agreed to have 15% reduction in pay that has a positive environmental or social effect. A further 51% of employees claim that helping make a better world working towards contribution to society are fundamental to the working society (Heldrich et al. 2012). Criticism however of business extends much further in that much more is expected of corporations today, with realization of ineffective government solutions on a social responsibility platform, for this and other reasons, in developed countries at least. Private sectors organizations are baring the burden of this responsibility to solve these social problems, let alone the directly responsible cases and matters it must rectify ie. Pollution, health and safety of products produced (smith, 2013) Discussion It is clear that with increased public and media pressure CSR is a matter of competitive advantage. From a Moral stand point, the argument is that with all the money businesses have as well as the power they possess to make societal changes, and are now obligated to do so, which seems to be the view of supporters of CSR which is similar to Crowther et all (2008) when he explained in his book that its the obligation of the firm to consider and include the society within its decision making and business operations. However, some argue that large companies have the only responsibility to maximize profits and have no grounds in socially moral matters otherwise, this may seem like a heartless view, whereas the supporters of CSR argue that charitable initiatives tend to shift the focus away from organizations harmful and unethical practices (Tran, 2015) The issue is then how does a business engage in actions that benefit everyone, this is a very difficult task however business managers must be able to balance these competing interests. Shareholders are those individuals to invest their money in the company in exchange for a percentage of ownership and typically voting rights, this makes shareholders the actual owners of the company and shareholders dont necessarily have the time or expertise to make a big decisions they elect the board of directors corporate officers to manage the day-to-day operations and send shareholders who again are the owners to make the decisions is the responsibility of the corporate officers to make decisions that are in the best interests of the shareholders and what is more important to shareholders profit so it is the responsibility of the corporate executive to make as much money as possible while of course operating within the rules of the game which refers to establish laws now engaging in what is termed social responsibility is in direct conflict with the shareholder model because it diverse resources in energy is away from profit maximising behaviours Take for instance giving to a charitable organization Freeman isnt arguing against donating to a local church but he is arguing that a business is not the appropriate vehicle to do it. for one finding cars that all of its shareholders agree with would be nothing short of a miracle and secondly by spending energies and resources on social responsibility the businesses giving up those alternatives that it may have otherwise engaged those alternatives may produce more of a benefit for the business. Instead Freeman believed that this is a super super profit maximization is actually making as much money for shareholders as possible and with that extra cash shareholders to donate to whatever organization they wish Freemans views of course represent just one of the two perspectives related to social responsibility the second perspective is known as the stakeholder model and maintains that businesses have a responsibility to not only see profits but also satisfy the interests of multiple sta keholders these stakeholders represent individuals or groups that have an interest in the actions and behavior of the business The conceptual thinking behind the stakeholder model is that for an organization to operate effectively the business managers need to continuously maintain a positive relationship and understanding with the environment and the society within which it operates. Failure to manage and maintain this will effectively cause harm to the reputation of the business in turn hinder their ability to operate. Since all stakeholder have different types of influence on organizations, they are then separated in to primary stakeholders and secondary stakeholders. Primary stakeholders represent those individuals or groups to have a greater influence on the organization they include businesses, customers, employees, suppliers government agencies and the local community (Henriques et al. 1999). These groups are very importance because the business depends of them for long term existence and survival. Consider the impact on the business if suddenly customers seize to buy and products or even the withdrawal of investors. The stakeholder model business managers top priority should be satisfying the various interests of these groups. Common secondary stakeholders like the media maybe not critical in the role played in CSR, however secondary stakeholders do pose strong publish perceptions which can influence the business (Henriques et al. 1999). Case Study 1 British Petroleum The stakeholder group do not carryout business on a regular basis with the company but the information that they communicate impacts the perception of the public drastically. For example, the lengths British Petroleum has taken to repair is damaged image in the light of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (Spence, 2011). The shareholder and stakeholder models above clarifies the if the objective if profitability, does it make it wrong to proceed with decisions with the profitability objective in mind although one can confidently argue the case that boosting profits by cutting cost didnt benefit BP in the long term. Therefore, conducting oneself as socially responsible is less about being socially responsible and being more profitable in an unadulterated socialistic way as Freidman suggests. On the other hand, Shell does portray and provide good examples of CSR by promoting openness. Shell makes it clear that it is keen to commit to transparency when debating with stakeholders. Tell Shell is a discussion blog or forum which tackles issues and matters relating to Shell on a global scale. The posts are criticizing Shell and at the same time supporting Shell, and regular responses from Shell (Shell, 2017). Once the correct personnel are in place, the identification of which stakeholder representatives should be engaged with, specific types of engagements should be determined and a measurement of social performance. A detailed understanding of the companies current corporate social performance is vital when constructing a plausible CSR strategy with clear objectives and goal (Shell, 2017) Case Study 2 Kraft Heinz Kraft Heinz Co suffered a blow from the media in 2009/10 because of Cadburys hostile acquisition. Even though the unions of Cadbury opposed and fought the case in the anticipation that there will be major job cuts. Following the take-over, many top potions employees and executives quit and as much as 30% of the Cadbury staff were privy to leadership posts (Moeller, 2012). As the acquisition ended, over four hundred job had been made redundant despite the promise of Kraft to retain employees (Stiener 2017), this was seen to be a horrible PR let alone a worst case of CSR for Kraft since Kraft now has been negatively portrayed socially. The rising government and public pressure regarding the manner in which companies operate and the total effect it has on the environment is increasing. Kraft as well as many other snack food companies are under pressure with their role in buying palm oil which has direct and considerable links to deforestation (Allen, 2015). Kraft as all multinationals has strict regulations when in operation, these rules are constantly changing with the evolvement of new contaminants globally, but was forced to recall 11 types of chocolate in Chine when it was reported that 50,000 babies become sick and 4 died by contaminated milk by a chemical product (Rigby, 2011) Kraft invests largely in improving its technology to minimize their Co2 emission and protect the environment and reduce global warming. They have incorporated policies to increase the use of rail and low emission modes of transport instead of using trucks (Kraft, 2010) Key Drivers To get and understanding to what the key drivers are, then answering questions of intent is the first item to uncover. An examination of processes and practices is not the only method when studying CSR, but also in depth discussions of communication strategies within CSR. In which way do social and organizational factors cultivate and shape the beliefs and norms that drive organizations to engage in socially responsible activities? A practical way to accomplish this would be to consult top management since they are normally the candidates that spear head CSR initiatives (Lee, 2010) Ethical Consumerism How aware are end users of the activities of the company they buy their product from? Front a B2B standpoint, are converter factories making conscious decisions about who they trade with? Responsible Investment This drives public /institutional investors as well as high net worth individuals to invest in ethically responsible companies. This is a big encouragement for companies to comply and produce CSR reports Shrinking Role of Government This is evident in the fact that due to the shrinking role of governments to solve the problems and issues within the society, its it becoming increasingly clear that organizations are taking on this role. Public Pressure/NGO We can establish that trade unions and NGOs do play a big role in pushing CSR initiatives, therefore due to the possible reputational consequences, firms are partly incorporating more inclusive CSR policies and initiatives. Conclusion Parameters for measuring a companys value or worth and competitiveness has evolved over time, especially since the time Friedman wrote his article in the 1960s. Hence with the ease of access and availability of external information, ie. Macro factors, yes parameters have changed. Therefore in the 60s, companies that took part in social initiatives were rarely publicized or even made known to the larger audience or media. Where as in this current day and age, even the slightest alteration in the CSR policy of the company or social activity is documented and either praise or frowned upon. To sum up, this is a view point Milton Friedman may have not anticipated at the time when analyzing and writing his report.

Parenting Styles Essay -- Raising Children Parents Essays Papers
Parenting Styles Parenting styles are as diverse as parents themselves. Parenting is one of the most challenging and difficult responsibilities a person can face. The way a family is structured is called the parenting style. Parenting styles are collections of parental attitudes, practices, and non-verbal expressions that characterize the nature of parent-child relationships. Because individuals learn how to parent from many different examples including their own parents, role models, society and life experiences. Parenting techniques can vary greatly from household to household, however, experts believe that parenting styles can be broken down into four main categories which include permissive, authoritarian, authoritative, and neglectful. The style of parenting with which children are raised can profoundly affect their social development, as well as their abilities to deal with life situations as adults. Parents who follow the permissive style of parenting have very few rules, no consistent limits, and more often than not give in to their children.. In a permissive family, the children are in charge. Authoritarian-parents who are punitive and focus on gaining a child's obedience to parental demands rather than responding to the demands of the child.Authoritarian parenting styles give little to no options to a child. What the parent says goes. It is a rigid approach to raising children that may have been most effective in times of great famine or toil. It was used most commonly in large, traditional families in which the father was the patriarch, and everyone else was called to follow his command. Times have changed greatly since. Doctors see a problem with this approach in modern times,it creates a distance between parent and child in which the child doubts the parent's love for him. It is based on punishment, which can easily create anger. Authoritative-parenting who are flexible and responsive to the child's needs but still enforce reasonable standards of conduct.the authoritative approach involves effective parental communication with their offspring. Developing empathy and understanding creates a positive atmosphere in which the children can thrive. With a heavy leaning on pyschology, this approach replaces spanking with talking. The weakness to this method, doctors point out, lies in the lack of authority that the child receives. They see ... ...arents tend to produce softly-addicted kids. It?s very difficult for parents to tell kids to stop watching so much television when they?re guilty of the same type of mindless behaviors. Parents will find, however, that if they learn to spend their time more meaningfully, not only will their lives be more satisfying but they?ll help create more satisfying lives for their children. There are many ways to raising a happy, health child. Parenting is a special gift to most men and women. The best thing you can give to parenting is to be consistent with whatever you tell your child to do and their punishment. Parenting, which is somewhat akin to teaching, should be regarded as one of the three cooperative arts. Thus conceived, it calls upon parents to assist their offspring in the process of growing up, doing so by observing carefully the steps the children themselves take in the process and doing what is necessary to facilitate their progress. Parenting departs from being a cooperative art, as teaching does also, when it tries to be the active and dominant factor in the process -- when parents or teachers think that what they do should be like the molding of passive, plastic matter.

Stefan’s Diaries: Origins Chapter 24
September 25, 1864 They say love can conquer all. But can it conquer Father's belief that Katherine and those like her are demonsââ¬âdevils? I do not exaggerate when I say Katherine is an angel. She saved my lifeââ¬âand Anna's. Father must know the truth. Once he does, he will be unable to deny Katherine's goodness. It is my duty as a Salvatore to stay true to my convictions and to the ones I love. Now is the time for action, not doubt. Confidence courses through my veins. I will make Father understand the truthââ¬âthat we are all the same. And with that truth will come love. Father will call off the siege. This I swear on my name and my life. For the rest of the day, I sat at my desk in my bedroom, glancing at an empty notebook as I contemplated what to do. If Father knew Katherine was a vampire, he'd call off the hunt. He had to. I'd seen him laugh with Katherine, attempt to impress her with stories of his boyish antics back in Italy, and treat her as he'd have treated a daughter. Katherine gave my father a vigor I'd never seen in him. She gave my father life. But how could I persuade him of this, when he so deeply despised demons? Then again, Father was rational. Logical. Maybe he could learn what Katherine had already taught me: that vampires weren't all evil. They walked among us, they cried human tears; all they wanted was a true home ââ¬âand to be loved. Finally, I steeled my courage and stood up, closing the notebook with an abrupt clap. This wasn't a schoolboy's assignment, and I didn't need notes to speak from my heart. I was ready to speak to Father man to man. After all, I was nearly eighteen, and he was planning to leave me Veritas. I took a deep breath and walked down the winding staircase, through the quiet living room, and knocked sharply on the door to Father's study. ââ¬Å"Come in!â⬠Father's muffled voice called. Before I had even put my hand on the knob, Father swung the door open himself. He wore a tailored jacket, with a sprig of vervain in the lapel, but I noticed that instead of being clean shaven, he sported salt-and-pepper stubble and his eyes were bloodshot and hooded. ââ¬Å"I didn't see you last night at the ball,â⬠Father said as he ushered me into his study. ââ¬Å"I hope you weren't part of that noisy, careless mob.â⬠ââ¬Å"No.â⬠I shook my head vigorously, feeling a flicker of hope. Did this mean Father was no longer planning an attack? ââ¬Å"Good.â⬠Father sat at his oak desk and slammed his leather-bound book shut. Beneath it, I could see complicated drawings and diagrams of the town, with X's over certain buildings, including the apothecary. And just like that, the flicker of hope was extinguished, and cold, hard fear took up residence in its place. Father followed my gaze. ââ¬Å"As you can see, our plans are much more thought-out than that foolish brigade of drunks and boys. Luckily Sheriff Forbes and his team put a stop to them, and none of them will be welcome at our own siege.â⬠Father sighed and steepled his fingers together. ââ¬Å"We're living in dangerous and uncertain times, and your actions need to reflect that.â⬠His dark eyes softened for a second. ââ¬Å"I just want to make sure your decisions, at least, are prudent.â⬠He didn't add ââ¬Å"unlike Damon's,â⬠but he didn't have to. I knew that was what he was thinking. ââ¬Å"So the siege â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"Will happen next week as planned.â⬠ââ¬Å"What about the compass?â⬠I asked, remembering the conversation with Katherine. Father smiled. ââ¬Å"It works. Jonathan's been tinkering with it.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh.â⬠A wave of horror rushed through me. If it worked, then that meant there was no doubt Father would find Katherine. ââ¬Å"How do you know that it works?â⬠Father smiled and rolled up his papers. ââ¬Å"Because it does,â⬠he said simply. ââ¬Å"Can I talk to you about something?â⬠I asked, hoping my voice betrayed none of my nerves. An image of Katherine's face flashed in my head, giving me the strength to lock eyes with Father. ââ¬Å"Of course. Sit down, Stefan,â⬠Father commanded. I perched in the leather wingback chair near the bookshelves. He stood up and walked over to the decanter of brandy on the corner table. He poured a glass for himself, then one for me. I took the tumbler and held it to my lips, taking a tiny, almost imperceptible sip of the liquid. Then I steeled my courage and stared straight at him. ââ¬Å"I have concerns about your plan for the vampires.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh? And why is that?â⬠Father leaned back against his chair. I nervously took a large gulp of brandy. ââ¬Å"We're making the assumption that they're as evil as they've been characterized. But what if that's not true?â⬠I asked, willing myself to meet Father's gaze. Father snorted. ââ¬Å"Have you any evidence to the contrary?â⬠I shook my head. ââ¬Å"Of course not. But why take what people say at face value? Y taught us ou differently.â⬠Father sighed and walked to his decanter, pouring more brandy. ââ¬Å"Why? Because these creatures are from the darkest parts of hell. They know how to control your mind, seduce your spirit. They are deadly, and they need to be destroyed.â⬠I glanced down at the amber liquid in my glass. It was as dark and murky as my thoughts. Father tipped his glass to me. ââ¬Å"I shouldn't have to tell you, son, that those who stand with them, those who bring shame to their families, will be destroyed as well.â⬠A chill went up my spine, but I held his gaze. ââ¬Å"Anyone who stands with evil should be destroyed. But I hardly think it's prudent to assume that all vampires are evil just because they happen to be vampires. Y always taught us to see the good in ou people, to think for ourselves. The last thing this town needs, when there have already been so many deaths from the war, is more senseless killing,â⬠I said, remembering Pearl and Anna's terrified expressions in the woods. ââ¬Å"The Founders need to rethink the plan. I'll come to the next meeting with you. I know I haven't been as involved as I could have been, but I'm ready to take on my responsibilities.â⬠Father sank back into his chair, leaning his head against the wooden back. He closed his eyes and massaged his temples. For several long moments he remained in that posture. I waited, every muscle in my body coiled to receive the angry flurry of words that was sure to fly from his mouth. I stared dejectedly into my glass. I had failed. I had failed Katherine, Pearl, and Anna. I had failed at securing my own happy future. Finally, Father's eyes snapped open. To my surprise, he nodded. ââ¬Å"I suppose I could give the matter some thought.â⬠Cool relief flooded my body, as if I'd just jumped into the pond on a scorching summer day. He would give the matter some thought! To some, that might not seem to be much, but from my stubborn father, it meant everything. It meant there was a chance. A chance to stop sneaking around in the dark. A chance for Katherine to remain safe. For us to be together, forever. Father lifted his glass to me. ââ¬Å"To family.â⬠ââ¬Å"To family,â⬠I echoed. Then Father drained the rest of his glass, which compelled me to do the same.

Terrorism and Countries Essays
Terrorism and Countries Essays Terrorism and Countries Essay Terrorism and Countries Essay Today my topic Is going to be on Terrorism? Terrorism is defined as political violence In an asymmetrical conflict that Is designed to Induce terror and psychic fear through the violent visualization and destruction of noncombatant targets. With terrorism comes; violence, war, discrimination, and safety of international security. Today the country is alert of all types of situations involving terrorism. The world needs to know that stepping out of their front door isnt going to be their last day without a bomb mysteriously landing in their front or backyard. International security Is necessary because we as a whole should be secure of traveling across the world without a terrorist scare. Violence Is a key factor In terrorism because once a target Is set, the intent is to harm severely. We have the right to protect our land. Children are being raised under their parents roof so violence Is necessary if terrorism every reached our soil. We discriminate a lot because of terrorism. Once a certain nationality induces terrorism, the world remembers them. For instance, Arabians are seriously criticized because of the 911 attack. The country Is sort of afraid of these guys because thieve not to be trusted, Were often stereotypical of this nationality, man and woman because the whole world knows exactly what theyre capable of. War Is a big concern in terrorism especially for the united States because our government is very strict of our land. Our government issues war because they arent afraid to let the citizens or other countries know that were not afraid of combat and will protect our land. Terrorism should result to war, especially if its on the United States soil. International security Is a must have because if not, cowardly acts will always be committed. The U. S shouldnt have to stress ourselves over hijacked planes, or marathon bombing. Specific Issues Next, are issues pertaining to this topic are to be taken very seriously. You have political terrorism, limited political terrorism, official or state terrorism, and a civil disorder. Political terrorism is basically criminal behavior, which enforces fear on communities for political purposes. Limited political terrorism is more detrimental Han Just political terrorism because the targets are exact and the threat is fiercer. The alma Is to strictly takeover a state when this type of Issue occurs. Official or state terrorism is beyond concern because, the government issues the attacks. This act of terrorism is mainly used by a foreign country other than the united States. The government Is very power and when this issue occurs, every country gets looked at and all of them become skeptical of the acts. Civil disorder is very different. This is really a scare tactic to me. Most reason a civil disorder occurs is because, an ally may not agree on the terms of a peace treaty. Their objective is to bring fear to security and basically let their enemy know that theyre not safe and something has to be done for us to agree. Most countries believe this act of terrorism is more potent because everyone reacts to it differently. Everyone questions this type of terrorism. This is an issue that makes the world uneasy. Single issue terrorism is committed act that enforces peace. Some countries are certain that they can invade anothers land ND theyll give in and call a truce. Ender any condition should this be a result. This Is and destruction on the opposed enemies. Most wars are bought into effect because the above issues occur. When these things happen most countries respond out of anger and fear. They look at these issues as a serious threat towards their well-being. 5 ways to deal with the issue Dealing with terrorism isnt easy. Coming up with five ways to deal with terrorism isnt easier. Five common ways that I feel like will resolve or help terrorism are immunization, revenue, violence, religion, and negotiation. Often communicating with the enemy helps because theyll realize that youre concerned, and sincere about the issue. When it comes to terrorism sometimes a simple talk can help the problem. Revenue is mostly a number one resolution to terrorism. I believe money will solve this issue because, the united states are in debt with a few countries and most issues occur because of revenue. Revenue isnt always likely to help but, its a start. We as a people are mainly provoked and harassed because of revenue problems. Violence is another way to deal with terrorism because, most enemies only respect violence. Sometimes you have to show the other side that threats arent taking too well, and a defense mechanism should always be active. Im not saying invade their country but if thats the result to respect than thats a beautiful initiation. Imposing proper religion also helps because nowadays most countries dont like the way we embrace their religion. We treat their standards and beliefs different from theirs and thats a lack of respect to them and sometimes terrorism can be their response. Lastly negotiation is the proper step in resolving this issue. Negotiation is very powerful because ones intent can quickly be monitored and reversed. Terrorism should be taken seriously because at round tables these issues are addressed and if not negotiated right, an under the table decision may be made and before you know it youll have enemies from all over. Every negotiator thinks and plots ahead of time so this is a tactic that should be taken advantage of especially when there are lives on the line. Conclusion My conclusion to this is simple. Whether or not youre dealing with political, limited political, official, or civil disorder terrorism isnt right. No one in the right state of mind should think of an act of destruction as an option to resolve a problem. Youre putting millions of lives at Jeopardy and most countries are undecided about decisions when it comes to terrorism. A grudge will always be held, and for years on down the line a peace treaty still wouldnt be able to ease the pain that was caused on that particular target. Being more respectful and considerate of other countries is start. Every country isnt going to like each other, every country isnt going to agree on things but, every country should keep in mind that there are innocent people that shouldnt be involved in the nonsense. No one should ever be afraid of a low flying plane or getting hijacked on a plane. No one should ever feel uncomfortable competing in a marathon race and fearing a bomb blowing up. These incidents should be kept at a minimum and being that the United States isnt strict on underestimates the other countries, actions such as these occur. I do believe in lenience but once again, violence should only be enforced to a certain extent. Terrorism is one of those extents. Families have to be protected and the government has to be able to run an organized establishment to ensure that whatever country once one mind is made up, thats it. As a people we should encourage ourselves to be more comprehensive of solutions. We all know terrorism isnt right so when is it going to stop? It starts with the government and them analyzing the options after and before terrorism. More importantly though, never underestimate or provoke the enemy.

Asian-American Culture Essay Example
Asian Asian-American Culture Essay Asian-American Culture Essay When you think of Asians-Americans in school, what are the things that come to the mind? They know math well? They are intelligent? They can help you with your homework? Well there are many stereotypes of Asians however the point is that Asians- Americans students are succeeding in school simply because it has something to do with the way they were raised and not the way they were born or even living up to their stereotypes. Asians- Americans put forth effort into their schoolwork and take education seriously. In reality no race is more intelligent than the other despite of what the public believes. Their parents brought them up to be respectable and obey their parents while the average America students are more focused on their hanging with their peers and popularity. Also while the average American is focused on extracurricular activities, Asian-Americans are raised to study hard and the harder you study the more you will be able to succeed in school and secure your future. The Asian-American parents are very strict and also they are the educators as well. According to an article in greatschools. org ââ¬Å"How Do Asian Students Get to the Top of the Class? â⬠Dr. Soo Kim Abboud, Jane Kim implies that Asian parents do several things that allow their children to embrace the role of student, ââ¬Å"They manage their childrens time outside of school, they assume the role of educator after school hours, they teach their children that being a student is both fun and rewarding (with the help of their childrens educators) and they have a genuine respect for educators. The parents turn their home into a learning environment in order for their kids to excel in their education. Statistics say that the percentage of Asians, age 25 and older, who have a bachelors degree or higher level of education. Asians have the highest proportion of college graduates of any race or ethnic group in the country and this compares with 27 percent for all Americans 25 and older that were raised by their Asian-American parents. Another thing that the Asian-American parents do is not to give them an A for effort like most American parents and teachers do. Most American parents feel if they are not positive enough or just a little too negative, they can damage kids self-esteem. However thatââ¬â¢s not always the case with Asian-American kids. Asian parents tend to not care about the children self-esteem because they want them to do it the correct way or donââ¬â¢t do it at all. For example, Tony Hsieh, the co-founder of Zappos. com tells his life and how growing up with Asian-American parents and how they were always strict and how being a kid who was forced to play four musical instruments and pressured to study hard and to do things right or donââ¬â¢t do them at all. Even though he hated the piano practices and the pressure to study when he was young, now that he is older he knows that the way he was raised benefited him tremendously because he now owns a billion dollar company and understands they ways to become successful through the way he was taught from his parents. Another example is Soo Kim Abboud is a surgeon and an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Her sister Jane is an attorney. They were born in the United States to parents who had emigrated from Korea with little money in their pockets but big dreams of a better life in their hearts. From the very beginning, Jane Kim says, her parents realized the importance of education for their daughters, and they made it their top priority. When we were younger, I mean in elementary and middle school, our parents were very involved, she says. So involved, she recalls, that they gladly assumed the role of teacher after. Thoa Hoang, 17, a Asian-American junior at Piedmont Hills High, said her Asian friends absorbed their hardworking attitudes from their parents. Were brainwashed, she said. Every one of us is afraid of being stupid or looking dumb. Even though the day at school ended, learning still went on in the home as her parents teach over what is important for her to know at school so she can be ahead. Peter Hoang states ââ¬Å"In our culture, we believe hard work pays off, and we just want for our daughter to be the best at whatever she does. â⬠It would seem like a lot of pressure to do the job right the first time however Thoa states, ââ¬Å"I am motivated and dete rmine to succeed not only for me, but for my family as well so they would be proud. â⬠Asian- American students arenââ¬â¢t any different from any ethnic group of students. They arenââ¬â¢t in any special classes that will make them smarter than any other ethnic group neither were they born with the brain that has an IQ of a thousand. However, what makes them unique is their culture and tradition of learning. When it comes to education, they treat it like something of value while most Americans take for granted. Asian parents simply want their children to value their education like the parents do. Here is a personal example, when I was in high school my senior year, I had a real close friend that was Asian- American and education was very important to her and her family so she achieve everything from top ten percent to being in International Barrculare meaning that she would receive not only high school but college credit and when she graduate, she receive two diplomas. When it was time for our graduation ceremonies and parties almost everyone participated except for her. I asked her why didnââ¬â¢t attend any of the graduation parties she said she wasnââ¬â¢t interested however I didnââ¬â¢t believe her. I suggested that she have a party of her own since she received so many awards. She refused and told me that it isnââ¬â¢t in her tradition to celebrate something you must achieve anyway. At first I didnââ¬â¢t understand what she meant by that because when I graduated, that was a huge accomplishment simply because I just wanted to graduate. I asked her father how does he feel about his daughter graduating he said this ââ¬Å"Her education has not ended at all just because she graduated from high school. It is just the beginning of her life and her education to continue. When I heard that I realized how important education was important to the family and how the parents are always there for her and letting her know that no matter what education comes first. That really let me know where we stand as Americans and how what must be done to at least have more effort toward education and not take it for granted. America is the land of opportunity to become anything you want to be in l ife. Itââ¬â¢s up to you to pursue. Can we as a nation mold into a nation where education is just as important to us as it is to the Asian-Americans? Or will we continue to take for granted and watch as opportunities that are meant for us be taken away because someone wanted the opportunity more than we did? If we allow ourselves to at least have the mentality for our students to have the best of grades like the Asian-Americans parents have the same mentality for their children, we as non-Asians or any other ethnic group can have more of an opportunity to prove ourselves than we can be smart as well if we only apply ourselves and receive the support from our parents and loved ones that we can achieve it if we believe it. Also the parents must become the educators as well as the parents
