Moral Permissibility of Torture
To most, straining is seen as action with a single definition that defines it, but in fact there are different types of torture that Henry Shue discusses in one of his articles. According to Shue there are rare conditions under which torture could be virtuously justified, but he does non avow neither the interrogational torture not the terroristic torture. Although Shue agrees with illegality and morally wrongness of torture, he explains how one may go about defending torture and how it could possibly be morally justified.Henry Shue begins his article discussing torture with constraints which allows the victim to surrender and comply with the demands of the torturer. According to the Constraint of Possible Compliance (CPC), the victim of torture must have operable an act of compliance which, if performed, will end the torture (Shue 427). With the aim of interrogational torture being to extract information from a person with holding it, this torture appears to converge the constr aint of possible compliance, since it offers an escape, in the form of providing the information wanted by the torturers, which affords some protection against further assault. In practice there are plainly only a few pure cases of interrogational torture. For the most dominant type of torture that occurs today is considered to be terroristic. Terroristic torture is meant to put fear in not only the victim, but also all those who oppose that g everyplacenment. The victims suffering is being used as a core to end over which the victim has no control over.Terroristic torture cannot satisfy the constraint of possible compliance because its spirit, intimidation of persons other than the victim of the torture, cannot be accomplished and may not even be capable of being influenced by the victim of the torture. If terroristic torture were actually to be justified, the conditions would of course have to be met. The first condition Shue defines is the purpose being sought through the tortu re would need to be not only morally good, but also supremely important. These purposes would then have to be selected by criteria of moral importance which would themselves need to be justified. The second condition described is that the torture would presumably have to be the least harmful means of accomplishing the supreme goal. With the terrible pain and harm that is associated with terroristic torture, this condition could rarely be the case in this type of torture. The last condition Shue defines is it must be suddenly clear for what purpose the erroristic torture was being used, what would constitute achievement of that purpose, and when the torture would end.Henry Shue believes these three conditions will never be met primarily because terroristic torture tends to pose a routine procedure in methods of governing and once it is set in motion by that government it would gain enough momentum to depart a standard operating procedure within the government. Shue also describes h ow governments to choose to try and prove themselves to other nations, over eliminating themselves from the fight.

Money: United States and Famous Wealthy Businessman
In this day and age, it is almost impossible to live without money. Money is the key to getting most of what we need and want. Evil is an secular act, which takes over individuals or societies and makes them do wrongdoings to each some other. This brings us to our topic of discussion Money is the root of all evil. There are two assorted attitudes to this topic. A group believes that money is non the root to all evil. In the world we currently live in, one needs money in inn to survive and be happy.Money gives people possibilities and when available, it allows people to live luxurious lives. When accessible, some people use their excess money to aide others. For instance, Bill Gates, a noneworthy wealthy businessman, donates 99% of his profits every year to charities. These charities then use the money to help the poor. This group also believes that, other than money, there is other inception of evil. For instance, hate is one aspect. Hate is created out of jealousy between in dividuals or societies. Detestation, if strongly felt, may lead to murder.Another principle of malevolence is sexual cravings. For some individuals, these cravings, if not fulfilled, may drive them into committing a horrible sort of violence. It may lead to rape. This malice has nothing to do with money whatsoever hence money is not the root of all evil. On the contrary, a group believes that money is the root of all evil. It is factual that money gives people power to succeed and to get what they want. However, sometimes excess power is used erroneously, which in the long term, creates evil.Evidence of this is the war that took place between Iraq and America in year 2003. It was America who declared war against Iraq. That war was ridiculous, as, until now, it has not yet been proven that Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction America had, and still has, a lot of money, and therefore, a lot of power. This has driven America to creating war and conflicts with other countries, which is a sign of evil. This money, which has been spent on the war, couldve been used in supporting millions of homeless, poor and starving people around the world

Drug Monitoring Program
While the war on do drugss has seemingly gotten better, there is a certain type of drug that is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of and control. Most race would have never thought that pharmaceutical drugs would be the cause of more deaths in the claim of Florida than heroin and cocaine related deaths combined in 2007. Nearly 550 of those death happened in the Tampa Bay atomic number 18a, leading this to becoming one of the biggest drug roast crisis in quite some time.A drug monitoring program would be such(prenominal) a program that keeps track of the dispensing of pharmaceuticals, mainly controlled substances, that would potenti each(prenominal)y hinder distribution of street drugs, put a halt to doctor shopping, put doctors that write fake scripts under the radar, hopefully reduce the amount of people that become dependent upon narcotics and diminish the number of people of overdosing on these lethal prescription drugs.A bailiwick was conducted by an independen t contractor to assess the attainment of drug monitoring programs. The research showed that in states where a drug program was in place the supply of illegally obtained pharmaceuticals and the likelihood of abuse was significantly reduced. The study also showed that if justice enforcement, rather than health oriented officials, were the ones to monitor the information there was a greater chance of success in reducing pharmaceutical abuse.Florida is currently one of the but states that does not have a drug monitoring program in place. For years, lawmakers in Florida have turned down such programs saying cost and privacy as their main concerns. Even the federal government has offered the state money, many states have already bought in however, Florida has not. Some lawmakers state programs are besides expensive and worry about placing private patient information in the hands of the government (Tisch, & VanSickle, 2008). Thirty four other states, however, do have programs in place. Surrounding states such as Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas all have drug monitoring programs. Kentuckys KASPER program started in 1999 as a fax-based system and in 2005 was converted to the first self-service, Web-based system of its kind. It tracks all schedule II-IV controlled substance prescriptions dispensed by licensed pharmacists within the commonwealth and helps medical practitioners physicians, pharmacists and law enforcement fight doctor shopping.A KASPER report shows all scheduled prescriptions for an individual over a specified time period, the prescriber and the dispenser (KASPER grant release, 2008). Additionally, Indianas INSPECT program charter licensed pharmacies in Indiana are required to report dispension of schedule II controlled substances. In early 2004, grant funding through the Harold Rogers grant program, helped bring on INSPECT in its current form. Additional funding for the programs is provided by the sta te itself and all data collection and maintenance are handled in-house, meaning information is only accessible to registered users and through a secure Web site connection that is run by program staff. With the death toll rising, along with the number of those addicted, it would be impossible for me as a member of the health care community to deny the obvious need for a drug monitoring program in Florida. Before reading the plethora of articles available on the subject, I knew there was a problem I suppose I just wasnt aware of how frightful it really was. I am shocked it has gotten to the point it has without intervention and to be honest a bit embarrassed of the burden we have become to surround states.I dont have experience dealing with pharmaceutical abuse in my nursing practice as of yet. I do, unfortunately, have experience dealing with the all too commonly abused oxycodone in interpersonal relationships. I have seen the damage it can do to people firsthand. The way it can slo wly distract someone you love, replacing them with someone you dont know at all. These drugs can have incredible therapeutic benefits if used in the context intended, but are too often used for reasons far beyond detrimental.I truly hope the information I have learned doesnt ever make me doubt anyone who says they are in pain, but I cant see how it wont. I will not, however, deny anyone in my care pain relief if they say they need it.

Communication Effects on Daily Life
4 Identify one or deuce direct ways in which mass media and culture impacted the 2012 national election results. Mass media had a profound impact on the 2012 presidential election. Mass media is one big community that includes a mainstream of media. more or less of the biggest components of the mainstream be television, radios, and the Internet. Mass media is one of the most powerful tools go ford during national elections beca wont it helps influence open-minded voters. elaboration also heavily impacts the national election results because the United States is slowly becoming a multicultural society.Racial mis cellanea is some amour that is so prominent in our lives and in that respectfore it plays a key role in the political system. sensation direct way in which mass media impacted the election was through attitude influence. Romney and Obama were awargon that attitudes could be influenced through the media and both shadowdidates spent oer 1 billion dollars during their campaigns, setting a new record. end-to-end categorys and months leading up to the election, the campaigns used mass media to spread political support or patronage to thousands of potential voters. The television is one of the most consequential technologies that cod impacted the election. It has remained ahead of other media for the out sacking 8 years. Attitude influence can be shaped through political debates that argon shown on TV. Millions of viewers watch television and tune in during the debates. The television helps rein impel previous attitudes and influence voters who are independent. The Internet is one other major key that impacted the election results. A decade ago, just one-in-fifty Americans got the news about a candidate from the Internet. Today, one-in-three Americans regularly nab learning about a candidate or the election online. These numbers show the candidates the importance of getting their message out to the public in order to gain more support. Culture heavily impacted the presidential election as well. The enormous growth of minorities in the United States has lead to a slap-uper impact of minorities during the presidential election. A nonage vote could watch a difference in the presidential battleground, (Zacarias, 2012). 2012 was a big year in elections because minorities could play a vital role in the outcome of the election. Obama and Romney both tried to get support from the minorities.Read also Advice About CommunicationObama constantly stated that he would reform immigration laws and this helped him gain more minority votes, which could devote played a role in him beating Romney. Culture, and specifically minorities and immigration issues are going to become more and more popular in the upcoming elections. 3 Describe the military units of new engine room on interpersonal chat, their accessibility, and their implications on global communication. new(a) technologies are slowly taking over the world and a lot of face -to-face interactions happen through mediate technologies.Mediated communication is making it easier for people to communicate with each other, in a sort of contexts. Whether that is Skyping from school, conference calls at work or social networking with friends. One effect of the new technology is selectivity of the mass communication audience. revolutionary technology has made mass media become more selective. For example, news newsprint- let oning companies can now sort through hundreds of articles to publish or delete any column with a press of a button. This damps the gate postponementer a great responsibility because they have the ability to influence the flow of information to a receiver. The other big effect that technology has on interpersonal communication is enhancing communication. Technological innovations such as teleconferencing and telecommuting make it easier for people to communicate with others at separate locations. It is something that businesses of all kinds are adopting around the country. The effects of the new technology have given people the opportunity to extend relationships across local and national boundaries. Currently, its estimated that there are 1. 1 billion people online throughout the world (Internet Usage Statistics, 2007).This is an example of how much we assert on technology. New technology is in everything and everywhere we go. Through computers, cell phones, machines, satellites and e-mails new technology have become more accessible to people in society. Just because technology has become more relied upon and accessible, does non rigorous it is necessarily near(a) for society. One global implication is that it has made people more introverted. New technologies have become more convenient and therefore cause less human contact. muckle do not have to go outside of their home to get access to whats currently going on around the world. The new technology also enables people to isolate themselves from the world and sp end more time on media than perhaps other people. Not everyone has access to the new technologies and this creates a digital divide. On a more positive note, new technologies contribute to implement political or social motley across. There get out continue to be long-term global communication but its important that we dont let technology overshadow human issues. 5 Think of a theme you belong to. Describe your roles in relationship to the functioning of the chemical group and any of the common difficulties that your group encounters in firmness problems. The group I am going to pick for this decision is the executive direction. I am one of the 8 members in my fraternities executive committee. The executive committee consists of members that best represent the fraternity and equalise when a decision or punishment needs to be made. The whole chapter votes the 8 members of the committee in and trust that decisions will be made to further the chapters excellence. Each person in the committee is equal in status. Some do not have power or authority over others. Last year I was the head of security for our house. With that creation said, one on my primary roles is to give acuteness on issues that the guys major power not know how to appropriately handle. I typically give suggestions and information to the committee that might not cross their mind right away. Opinion seeking, opinion giving and organise are things I keep in mind to help better the function of the group. I am going to talk about a situation that happened a few weeks ago. One of our pals got drunk and decided to throw beer bottles in the street and curse our security. I happened to be on security tonight and talked to security so they did not have to come search our house. This brother put our house at essay and so there was an executive meeting called that next day. The overall consensus was to fine the brother 250. 00 for his actions. I gave insight and offered suggestions on how we could m ore effectively get through to the brother. The committee ended up listening to me and the brother is no longer allowed to drink in our house this semester. Since alcohol is essentially what caused him to act out in such a poor manner. The executive committee sometimes struggles when it comes to problem solving. Often the group is tide rip and we have to call someone else in to count and therefore make the decision. One of the biggest problems that the group has when it comes to problem solving is railroading. Unfortunately there is always a guy or two, no matter what the issue is, that tries to force their will on the group. Another common problem that is frequently faced deals with constructive criticism. Some of the group members often attack each other if they feel fractureed instead of successfully challenging ideas. 6 What difficulties might arise with intercultural communication? Have you experienced any? Intercultural communication is something that has become so distribu tive within the last few decades. This is due to advances in technologies and mass migration that has made long distance communication more reachable. One thing that is certain is that intercultural communication has become more available to the world. With that being said, there are several difficulties that might arise with the instant popularity of intercultural communication. The first difficulty that might arise is the use of language. Language differences go much deeper than simple translations. The Spair-Whorf hypothesis states that, languages differ more than strict word-for-word translations often indicate because people who lecture the languages have various needs. In high school my neighbor had an telephone exchange bookman from Spain. I know the basics of the language as asked him for a vaso which I thought meant glass. It does mean glass but he made me aware that it could also mean substance. Even when we can write out to translate from one language to another with l iteral accuracy, the failure to understand idioms can create difficulties. communicative messages are different throughout cultures and therefore can lead to difficulties and misunderstanding between people. The exchange student from Spain invited me over to his house one time.He asked me if I wanted something to drink and I nodded. He looked at me unmatched and did not move until I said yes please. I later found out that in Spain, droopy does not have the same meaning. Norms, roles, beliefs and values are also difficulties that might occur in intercultural communication. People in different cultures expect different behaviors from on another. Each norm takes different forms in different countries (Christians and Traber, 1997). When it comes to greeting, in the United States people often shake hands or hug. In France it is common to osculate on the cheek. If a guy kissed a girl on the cheek here, he might take out with a b wish eye. Norms also can lead to misunderstandings. In o ur society, it is taught at an early age to speak up and make eye contact. However, in some countries, speaking up is considered disrespectful. Difficulties in intercultural communication might arise when it comes to beliefs and values. It happens often that someone from a country, who is speaking to people of a different country, might offend them. If people do not understand or accept the values of another country, difficulties and tensions will rise.Ethnocentrism and stereotypes are two problems that not accepting values of a country can lead to. Improving these perceptions will help reduce the amount of difficulties that are tied with intercultural communication. 7 Using your media/new technology journal, take out how mediated communication and communication technology affects your periodical life. Apply concepts from the theories and textbook to explain your reliance (or lack thereof) on media. My laptop, cell phone and television are technologies that I use the most in life. I use these forms of technology everyday, in a variety of contexts.Whether thats typing up a paper in my room, watching a football with friends, or Skyping with a friend in Paris. The types of technology and media listed in my journal have impacted communication in my life because I do not have as many face to face interactions and tend to be less extraverted. Whenever I use my laptop, I often get on the Internet. Thats because life has become so smooth with the Internet being easy to access. Some of my main uses with it are connecting with friends, connect to social networks and browse different newsgroups to keep up on current information.According to USCs Center for the Digital Future, 77. 6% of Americans are daily Interne users. Thats more than three quarters of the population and shows how important the Internet is in peoples daily lives. I will be the first to admit that Id be lost without my cell phone. It is considered an essential in my daily life. Cell phones can be used in a variety of ways. Making phone calls, sending text messages, emailing, browsing the Internet and even shopping. With that being said, the main thing I use my cell phone for is convenience.Using my cell phone is not always a good thing though because it is sometimes a distraction and can be dangerous because sometimes I read texts while driving. The television is also a technology that I use to keep up with information. In my life, it serves as an eye around the world. It helps educate myself through social, political and economic issues, which lead me to use selective attention. I often turn to the television for entertainment with friends because it helps bring us together and keep the dynamics of our group intact.Recent research finds that among college students the five most often used sources of news were, hometown newspapers, comedy news, line of reasoning news, Internet news, and broadcast news (Didi and LaRose, 2006). This shows how strong the relationship between person al and mediated communication can be in our daily lives. I use the media to choose communication that often confirms to my own beliefs. selective exposure is something that I often do because seeking out something that is similar to my values or attitudes is something I would probably enjoy.

This helps us today because concrete is use in many varied ways. cover makes up most of the building structure on this earth. in advance even the use of concrete for roads, it was used to make simple things, such as pots to cook in, new(a) types of housing etc. nce buildings came into affect, jobs then formed, business started, then grew and so on. They also constructed roads. Something as simple as a roadway opened up new civilization to the early Romans. Places they never could have cognize about, or gotten to by foot or horse and carriage. Archetecture started back when they used natural beautiful material to construct buildings. We have locomote on to use less expensive and less beautiful materials, but have changed our architectural design. Those are some of the achievements of the Roman and Greek golden ages.
